Some initial ideas for my James and the Giant Peach book cover competition run by Puffin books. One rule we have been given is that we are not to use a peach, so I'm concentrating on what they view from the peach while they are on their journey

These are two pieces I made up for The Book Club merchandise. They were edited slightly so we were able to screen print them onto tops, bags and prints to be sold for their upcoming tour this December.

Here's a link to their site to check out the final outcomes and a sneaky peak to their tunes

Illustration for my graduation proposal book cover

A few images I'm working on to illustrate the 7 Chakras.
These particular ones are to represent the Root Chakra which is effected by money issues and possessions. I'm looking into every element of each Chakra, so what foods and exercise benefit them, with the root I'm working on root vegetables and protein foods which will complete my first part of my graduation project.

Plenty more on the way :)

Fisheye2  35mm
Forgot to put the flash on when we were traveling the tube, although I quite like the grubby look its created because it pretty much sums up London underground.

 Balloon Rider

Thursday, 26 August 2010

I've decided to change my theme slightly to begin my third year. Instead of a specific celebration, I'm going to try out just celebration transport, exploring what transportation is used throughout different cultures. This is a quick illustration I've drawn today to get the ball rolling, Obviously I want to expand on this idea a lot further and make my illustrations and ideas more strange than realistic.

I was lucky enough to receive a fisheye2 camera for my birthday earlier this month. I had my first crack at it last week and had a go at it at night time and day. This is my favourite image out the lot and is very much my daytime camera...who needs digital eeh? next adventure for the beautiful little thing is nottinghill carnival in a couple of weeks.

Norwich Degree show- Textiles

Another part of the show I was really impressed with were the textile designers....I have to say my sister had her degree work up this year, otherwise I may of breezed through this section alot quicker.
Beside all their work and on their portfolios they had their names laser cut into wood. I think personally it might of looked better cut through a different material, however it was a really nice touch to all their presentations and something I hadn't seen at a show before.
While walking round I did notice a lot of people taking more attention to the portfolio stands rather than the work displayed and their opinions were more than just "hmm yes thats..nice" which gave me a little reminder not to put my attention to much onto the final rather than the portfolio itself and equal them out to the same high standard that I can achieve.

Part 1 Norwich Art & Design Graduation Show

On June 22nd I went to go and visit Norwich Graduation show and having been to one before, I knew the competition, once again was going to be very high!
To be honest I wasn't and still not quite sure what to think of the Fine 'out there' as i expected it to be. I'm not sure what a piece of bubble wrap and a calender of dead flies was meant to conclude of what they had learnt within 3 years...?? but each to their own I guess...

However the Graphic Design section was well.......AMAZING. The illustration in particular was so well presented and the standard of their ideas, techniques, colours were really inspiring and professional. All this scaring me a little for next year but excited to hopefully produce something with the same wow factor.

Two illustrators in particular that caught my eye were Anna Brinded and Lauren Greaves.
Anna had a really amazing book she had created along side some alone illustrations, with all of them having the same standard of beautiful detail and colour which also seem very dream like.
Lauren Greaves had a lot more cleaner look to her work, her ideas were so creative and seem so effortless. Her presentation of her show was obviously well thought out and framed every piece the same and added a vinyl of one of her characters to the wall underneath.

Here's blog links as I don't feel I can give them enough justice, so have a little look.

Well that was the illustration and Part 2 will be the textiles when i find my camera charger!

To finish off my project I made my fabric prints into bunting to connect with my Carnival theme. I'm really happy with the result and overall I my self directed project has been a success which has given me more confidence to continue this into my final year.

I decided to redo my Prep for Level 6. I'm really glad I did because my grid layout is a lot better than before and I added a few of my own illustrations to make it more personal.
Here are a few of my favourite pages from the book. Enjoy!

Thursday, 29 April 2010

To keep all my fabric designs together I made myself a sample book. I am definitely going to get into a routine of doing this with future fabrics I print as its a really tidy way to keep work and easy to refer back to if I want to go back and print it again.

Saturday, 24 April 2010

Final fabric prints! They all came out really well on the final print and will hopefully be made into some bunting to keep with the carnival theme.
